Retired Commander Donald W. Gray enlisted in the Navy Air Corps in 1942, at the age of 18. After completing flight training, he was assigned to a flight group at Fort Ticonderoga. Near the end of WWII, he was stationed at Chincoteague, VA, and then assigned to Norfolk to deliver war bond planes. Commander Gray went on inactive duty in February of 1946.
