Henry Flick was born in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania in 1923. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943, two years after graduating from high school. After attending boot camp at Sampson and being trained in electrical work and fighting fires he joined the crew on the USS Booth in Portsmouth, Virginia. Mr. Flick worked on the USS Booth as an electrican until she was decommissioned in Jacksonville, Florida in approximately 1946. He mentions the poverty in many ports and the main duty of the USS Booth as retrieving Japanese prisoners of war. |
