Horace Whitley was inducted into
the U.S. Army in April of 1944. He completed basic training at Camp Croft, S.C.
He was deployed to the European Theater in October of 1944, landing at
Southhampton, England. Whitley was assigned to the 45th Infantry
Division near Strasberg, France. He remained on the front lines in France until
January of 1945. He was wounded in action and sent to an evacu-hospital in
Marseilles. He returned to the U.S. in 1945.
