Milton Blake joined the U.S. Navy
in 1941. He attended basic training at Bainbridge, Maryland and was assigned to
the 107th Seabee Battalion. He completed Seabee training at Camp
Perry, Virginia, and in the fall of 1942, was deployed to the Pacific Theater.
Blake spent a year and a half building and repairing military
installations in the Marshall Islands. From there he traveled to the Marianna
Islands, participating in the invasions of Tinian and Saipan. Blake was present
when the Anola Gay returned to the Island of Tinian after the bombing of
Hiroshima. He returned to the U.S. soon after the War ended.
