Dave Carnell Joined the U.S. Navy
in 1944, completed indoctrinational school at Princeton, N.J., and radar school
at Hollywood Beach, Fla. He was assigned to a destroyer, the USS John Roger, and
Deployed to the Pacific Theater. He took part in the bombing of Tokyo on January
20, 1945 and also, in battles for Guam, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
The USS John Roger was patrolling Japanese waters when the notice
of surrender was signed on September 6, 1945. Carnell returned to the United
States as a part of the U.S. Victory Fleet. He remained on the John Rogers while
it was being decommissioned at Charleston, S.C. Carnell was separated from the
Navy in April of 1946. |
