Lloyd Jard
enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943.
He attended Midshipman school at Columbia University. He was assigned to LST
(Landing Ship Tank) 47 and deployed Europe, landing in England. From February
until June of 1944, his unit remained in England training for the invasion of
Normandy.
On June 6, 1944, Jard, aboard LST 47, landed in Normandy at Utah
Beach. After the invasion, they traveled between North Africa, Italy and
Southern France ferrying troops and supplies. Jard returned the U.S., and was
preparing for the invasion of Japan when the war ended. |
