Thor
Ronningen
was inducted into the U.S. Army on July 15, 1943. He completed basic
training at Fort Benning, Georgia and the Army Specialized Training Program in
engineering at Arkansas State College. He joined the 99th Infantry
Division at Camp Maxie, Texas and was deployed to Europe, landing at Plymouth,
England.
Ronningan
first engaged in combat on December 16, 1944 near the Siegfried Line in Germany.
He fought the Battle of the Bulge in Germany, Belgium and France until he
was wounded in March of 1945. He was recuperating in a Hospital in England when
the war in Europe ended.
