Description Tag, Identification (dog tag); "C.E. FONVIELLE/0449010 T42 1/MRS W A FONVIELLE/ 1510 CHESSNUT ST/WILMINGTON NC" stamped in 2 metal plates; plates strung through ball link chain; 1 plate attached to a small ball link chain which is looped around larger chain.

Notes 1996.22.49 Identification tags, c. 1942 American servicemen and women were required to wear at all times a set of metal indentification tags around their necks. In case of death these Dog Tags aided in the identification. Note that on these dog tags the next of kin is listed. Lieutenant Chris E. Fonvielle, Sr wore these dog tags while he served with the American 7TH Armored Division as a forward observer. He later served with the 3rd Armored Division since he could speak fluent German.
