Description Gun, Submachine; 9mm German MP40; all-metal w/ folding stock, pivoting buttplate & grooved pistol grip; manufacturer's mark on receiver reads "MP40/ayf 43/5355r" (ayf=maufactured by Erma); all serial numbers match; leather sling w/ metal hardware; no magazine.

Notes 1972.17.1 Submachine gun, c. 1944 The battle that was fought at the "Siegfried Line" brought down the massive line of German fortifications along the Western Front. Staff Sgt. George Greer took this 9mm German MP40 submachine gun on March 20,1945, after the battle at Siegfield. Greer was a member of the U.S. Army's 111 Combat Engineering Battalion, 36th Infantry Division.
