Notes 973.6.35 19. Untitled Castle Neubourg, Holland, September 24, 1944 Watercolor on paper A faded red cross flag hangs from the gutter where the Germans left it; the pup tents of the Techinical Intelligence Team nesteled for shelter against the castle walls; and the ever present G.I. laundry is drying in the sun; "We;ll hang our washing soon on the Siegfried Line." Hanging the wash on the Siegfried Line was a reference to both the German defensive line and a Brtitish song made popular after Germany invaded Poland in Septmeber 1939.
